Aquitaine – Lot-et-Garonne – Gite Hameau Borie Bonaguil

Aquitaine, France tourist information

Aquitaine is found in the south-west corner of France. It reaches Spain at its southern frontier, and the Atlantic Ocean runs along the western edge of the region. The extended Midi-Pyrenees region is found to the east.

For visitors the region falls into three distinct regions

- the forest backed coasts of the western edge, best known for the beaches, surfing, and summer fun

- the countryside of the Dordogne / Lot-et-Garonne departments further inland, and the history reflected in the castles and medieval villages set among the verdant countryside

- the foothills and low Pyrenees, and the numerous typical Basque villages that they contain

Major cities in Aquitaine include Bordeaux, Biarritz and Perigueux.

Aquitaine – Coastline

The beautiful and long Atlantic coastline, and the areas between Arcachon on the coast near  Bordeaux, reaching down to Biarritz and on to St Jean de Luz in the south near the Spanish frontier, are backed by the enormous forests of the Landes region, and the Dune de Pilat (the largest sand dune in Europe).

Gites in Aquitaine

A popular and very beautifully restore gite is Le Hameau Borie Bonaguil

There are many stables in the region that offer rides, and pony treks for amateurs, to advance, including children. The trekking routes are well designed and very adaptable offering riders the best opportunity of seeing the Lot et Garonne & Le Lot, from its Chateaux and Bastides to it rolling hills and local villages.

Swimming Lakes

There are many swimming lakes to choose from in the region. They are open daily throughout the summer and are a great place for all the family. There are lakes located at Tournon d’Agenais, Montaigu de Quercy and at Prats du Périgord (Prats Plage) in the Dordogne, where you will find sandy beaches, children’s play areas, games and activities. The Lot et Garonne and Le Lot are renowned for fishing – Fishing permits are required, readily available from Angling Shops or local Tourist Information Centres.

The local Angling Federation publishes a booklet each year about the rivers and the rules for the catch. Permits are called ‘Carte de Pêche’ and come in a number of forms including: ‘Carte Journalière’, for one days fishing in 2nd Category waters and ‘Carte Vacances’, for 15 days consecutive fishing from June 1st to September 30th.

There are specific areas allocated to night fishing for carp. Fishing is also permitted in many of the swimming lakes, in designated areas away from bathers, and other water sport activities.

There are five rope courses in the trees, two small courses for children, and three progressively more difficult courses for adults. Harnesses and instruction are included or you can enjoy a round of mini-golf. A lovely rural location for taking a picnic. Situated at Lacapelle-Biron, approx 15mins from Le Hameau de Borie. The park opens every day between 9am and 8pm throughout July and August (Open at weekends outside these times)
